Our local FAA representative has provided the following guidance on the weather for Thunderstruck weekend:

The official National Weather Service forecast for our launch site is located here.
The 24 hour aviation forecast can be obtained from the NOAA at http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/taf.shtml; enter KLAF as the identifier.
Winds Aloft data is available from the NWS Aviation Weather Center for the upper Midwestern region at http://www.aviationweather.gov/products/nws/chicago with an explanatory map at http://www.aviationweather.gov/products/nws/winds

February Meeting Time Change

Due to double-booking at the extension office, we have moved the February meeting to 4:00 PM. We’ll be discussing some updates to the bylaws, planning for Thunderstruck, and a whole lot more. See you there!

February Launch Dates

The winter flying season continues with our next launch, in February! We’re scheduled to fly under the Tripoli Research rules on Saturday, the 25th, and certified on the 26th. We’ve got 22,000 feet of airspace and miles of flat, power line-free recovery area. Come join us!

Launch Report: December 2011

December 2011 saw two Ns, three Ms, and a bunch of Js, Ks, Ls, too. Calm winds and clear skies made for a memorable weekend of flying. Click through for photos!

January Launch Dates

The new year’s flying season will begin on the 28th and 29th of January at Ash Grove. Since the new TRA rules still exclude NAR adult members, we’ll have a commercial NAR+TRA day on Saturday, the 28th, and a research (TRA+youth) day on Sunday, the 29th. As usual, we’ll have the pads ready to go at around 10:00 AM, both days… see you there!
