Wildman Kentucky 360 Drag Race
Darryl Hankes at Wildman Kentucky is bringing drag racing 360° full circle, back to its earliest meaning. The winner keeps their rocket as low as possible. The rules: 54mm motor mount, 4″ airframe, CTI Pro54 J360 Skidmark. The deal: get a Pro54 3 grain case, Pro54 aft closure, and Pro54 J360SK reload for 40% off. And if you need a rocket, all 4″ rockets with 54mm motor mounts are 15% off. Get in touch with Wildman Kentucky to secure your place! (270) 325-4510, nocturnalknightrocketry@yahoo.com
Farmageddon 2012 Mach Madness Contest
Sponsored by ROCKETS Magazine, Wildman Hobbies, and Public Enemy Aerospace, this competition is simple: make your rocket go as fast as possible. The official rules list is:
- The event starts at range open on Friday, and ends at 3pm on Sunday.
- A $25 contest entrance fee allows you to enter and fly as many times as you want, all three days. There is no pre-registration for the contest.
- The rocket must have ONE motor in it; no clusters, airstarting, staging, or multi-staging.
- The motor may be certified or experimental.
- You break the waiver on your flight, your attempt is disqualified, and we send Vinny & Tony after you.
- The rocket must be returned after flight COMPLETE to the LCO table in a prompt fashion, and shown to be in re-flyable condition. No re-epoxying fins, missing nose cones, zippered tubes, etc.
- At the judge’s table, you must report your maximum velocity from your acceleration-based altimeter for recording on the master flight sheet. No baro data will be allowed without intense scrutiny of your numerical differentiation model by at least three Purdue aerospace engineers. You know what, let’s make this simple… no baro data will be allowed.
- If the velocity reading requires a laptop, bring your own and show us.
- Fastest velocity will be scored as the Mach number, calculated at the historical mean air temperature for the launch weekend (1102.46 ft/sec) to the second decimal place (e.g., 2.67, 3.12, 1.86, etc.). If there is a tie, the raw velocity number will be used to determine the winner.
- You MUST be of appropriate age and cert. level for the motor you are flying.
- You MAY either kick the chute/streamer out at apogee, or use standard dual deploy. (Recall the “prompt fashion” rule, however.)
- No extreme angling of the flight to attain less gravity pull will be permitted. Flights (and flyers) breaking the horizontal waiver cylinder will suffer the same fate as flights breaking the waiver ceiling.
Prizes include a legit trophy from Public Enemy Aerospace, subscriptions to ROCKETS Magazine, Wildman Rocketry gift certificates, and ROCKETS DVDs and back issues. Note that you do not have to break Mach to win; you just have to go faster than the other competitors, and get it back in one piece. Are you game?
